Bronte Puppy Training
Puppy Training Bronte
A family on Macpherson Street called us in autumn, their 12-week-old labrador was pulling so hard on walks they couldn't even make it to Bronte Park. The puppy would lunge at every dog, person, and seagull within sight. Sound familiar?
Puppy training Bronte has its own unique challenges. Your close to the beach, there's constant dog traffic, and most puppies get way over-stimulated by all the activity. But with proper training from the start, your puppy can learn to handle beach life calmly.
The ones who start puppy training early - before bad habits develop - have dogs who actually enjoy beach walks instead of making them stressful.
Puppy Preparation (0-8 Weeks)
Before you bring your puppy home to Bronte, there's planning to do. Most people underestimate what puppy raising involves, especially in a beach suburb where there's constant temptation and distraction.
Our pre-puppy program helps you prepare properly. You'll learn how to set up your home for a new puppy, understand what supplies you actually need, and create a realistic schedule. We cover breed selection too - some breeds are perfect for active beach suburbs, others not so much.
You'll also learn about the critical socialisation period (8-16 weeks), toilet training strategies, and how to start building good habits from day one. The families who do this prep work have way smoother first weeks than those who just wing it.
One thing specific to Bronte - you need to think about how you'll manage your puppy around beach environments. Dogs aren't allowed on Bronte Beach during summer daytime hours, but they are allowed early morning and evening. Your puppy needs to learn beach etiquette and recall before you can safely take them off lead.
Starting puppy training Bronte with proper preparation means your setting yourself up for success, not just hoping for the best.
Puppy Program including Puppy School (8-16 Weeks)
This period is absolutely critical for puppy training in Bronte. Between 8-16 weeks, your puppy's brain is wide open to new experiences. What they learn now about other dogs, people, environments, and situations will shape their entire adult life.
Our puppy school runs with 8-10 puppies per class. This number provides excellent socialisation - enough puppies to learn proper play behaviour, but not so many that it becomes chaotic. Your puppy interacts with different breeds, sizes, and temperaments.
For Bronte puppies, we focus heavily on:
- Socialisation with other dogs (you'll encounter many at the beach)
- Basic obedience (sit, drop, come, loose lead walking)
- Appropriate play and reading other dogs' body language
- Building confidence around water, sand, seagulls, waves
- Learning to stay calm around distractions
- Recall foundations (critical for beach safety later)
Last summer, a couple near Calga Reserve had a spaniel puppy who was terrified of waves. They were worried he'd never enjoy the beach. Through gradual exposure and positive experiences in our puppy training program, that dog now loves swimming at Bronte. Started with just getting his paws wet, built up slowly from there.
The 8-16 week window doesn't last long. Miss it and everything becomes harder. Proper puppy training Bronte during this period sets your dog up for a confident, happy life in this beautiful beachside suburb.
Post Puppy Program (16-52 Weeks)
After 16 weeks, adolescence kicks in. This is when your puppy starts testing boundaries, getting distracted easily, and sometimes developing behavioural issues. For Bronte dogs, common problems include beach reactivity, poor recall around wildlife, and overexcitement around other dogs.
Our post puppy program includes 2 group training sessions where we tackle these issues head-on, plus months of online support covering everything that might crop up during the 16-52 week period.
We help you identify potential problems before they fully develop. Then you have training modules ready to go:
- Reactivity and aggressive behaviour towards dogs or people
- Off lead walking and better walking practise (essential for beach life)
- Stopping jumping up on beach-goers and visitors
- Dealing with separation anxiety
- Biting and chewing issues
- Poor or no recall (dangerous at the beach)
- Reducing unnecessary barking
- Managing hyperactive or fearful dogs
- Potty training problems that persist
A family on Hewlett Street had a kelpie cross who became dog-reactive around 8 months. Every walk was a nightmare - lunging, barking, completely stressed. They followed our post puppy program modules on reactivity and within a month, walks were enjoyable again.
Adolescent dogs living near Bronte Beach face unique challenges - so much stimulation, so many triggers. But with the right training and support, they can learn to handle it all calmly. That's what our post puppy program provides for Bronte families.

“I felt at ease leaving my rescue Bonnie (who also receives daily medication) with the Toe Beans Co while we traveled overseas. I know she got the care and daily pats she needs and even received regular videos and updates.”
