Puppyhood looks adorable online. In real life it's 3am wake-ups, accidents on the rug, needle-sharp teeth on your hands and the kids, and a dog who jumps on every visitor. Then it changes: pulling on the lead, ignoring you the moment there's a distraction, barking at the door, chewing the skirting boards, and a meltdown every time you leave the house. By six or seven months you've got an adolescent testing every rule you ever set. We help with all of it, in the order it actually happens, so most of it never takes hold, and what does gets sorted fast.
Our goal at The Toe Beans Co is to spread dog owner education far and wide. Most owners either struggle, or have struggled, with behavioural problems in the past.
My name is Luke Buchanan, owner of The Toe Beans Co. I love pets (if you hadn't noticed) and want you to experience the joy of pet ownership, just as I have.
We provide free online dog training support for 20+ different breeds of dog as well as a complete puppy prep program for new owners. You can access weekly Q&As with our dog training team, meet other owners in your area and learn more about online support.

Method & Trust
Does your training use pain, fear, force or aggression?
ABSOLUTELY NOT. If you want a method like that I suggest you call the 1980's, go back there and never get a dog. We teach The 5 Golden Rules through The Online Dog Trainer, a method based on positive action that reinforces your role as the leader in your dog's eyes.

What qualifications do you have?
All our team members are required to pass AFP background checks before working with us as well as sitting and passing the Red Cross Pet First Aid Australia course. I trained under Dan Adbelnoor and graduate from the Dog Trainer Academy whilst also being a Certified Professional Pet Sitter (CPPS) from Pet Sitters International.

What is the ethos behind your dog training?
Developing a well behaved dog has 2 parts: dog psychology & dog training. We focus first on understanding your dog and getting them to choose to follow and listen to us. When dogs aren't making all the decisions, they calm down and relax, making them far more receptive to training. To do this, we don’t need to use force, fear or aggression. In fact the opposite. Whether dealing with barking, leash pulling, jumping, or aggression, these behaviours typically stem from dogs being too excited, reactive, and emotional. The key is getting them to turn to you and listen when it matters. Once they're calm and looking to you for guidance, you can effectively show them how to behave.
In short: before you train the dog, you need to win their mind.

Our puppy program comes with the following components:
What age should I start puppy training?
We recommend that your puppy starts training as early as possible. Our program runs from day 1 at home with your puppy up until they are 8 months. We recommend taking your 1:1 session early into their time at home to get you set up, and we have plenty of support in the weeks that follow. For the group puppy school element, your puppy needs to have had their second vaccination — we're able to take puppies from around 11 weeks once this has happened.

You can start our puppy program at any age. We recommend starting as early as possible and have online and one to one support to help you through the early weeks at home. How long do puppy training classes last?
The group class element of our puppy programs are 4 weeks long. They are 45 - 60 minutes once per week. This gives a good balance of learning before your puppy runs out of energy (which happens quickly.). Your puppy needs to have had their second vaccination to join — most puppies start group school between 11 and 13 weeks old, though this can shift depending on your puppy's breed and size for the current class. The overall course lasts 6 months.

Do you offer fully private puppy training?
All of our puppy programs come with at least 1 x at home one to one session included. You can choose to increase this to how every many sessions you need. Some clients do not want to participate in group classes for several reasons. Socialisation is a critical point of puppy development. We are able to offer a full one to one experience for clients that are able to prove they can fully socialise their dog outside of our training.

Whether you have an older dog struggling on a lead, a puppy that needs some playtime or an adolescent dog that has started to ignore you, we can help. We offer a range of services from dog training to dog walking and pet sitting.
Using ethical, science based methods we help you understand the problem through your dogs eyes and give you simple actions to take. We start by helping you understand how your dog thinks and why they behave the way they do, giving you the keys to unlock their mind and build genuine connection.
Between 4 and 12 months your dog goes through a huge amount of change. They grow from the cuddly puppy into their full size. They build confidence and want to understand their place in the world around them. We combine our puppy program with additional 1:1 training to get you the support you need.
A one-hour slot with at least 45 minutes of proper walking, just your dog. We can fold in a bit of training while we're at it, loose-lead work or recall, so the walk does double duty. Every walker is Red Cross pet first aid certified and fully insured, and you get photos along the way.
We sit your dog in their own home, where they are calmest, from an hour up to overnight stays. We can keep training ticking over, handle feeding and basic medication, and send photos so you are never left wondering. Every sitter is Red Cross pet first aid certified and fully insured.
We look after your cat in their own space, which is exactly where a cat wants to be. We handle the feeding and the routine, with a bit of behaviour support if it is needed, and we happily cater for multi-cat households. Photos come as standard.
