Because Everyone Just Told You "Use Treats"

Most training fixes the behaviour in front of it and leaves the reason in place. That is why the last thing you tried worked for a fortnight.

Dog Training and Behaviourism, 32 Weeks and Over

A dog that barks, pulls, lunges or snaps is almost always over threshold. Threshold is the point where arousal gets high enough that calm behaviour stops being available to them. It isn't that your dog doesn't know the command. They know it. They just aren't in a state where they can reach it. This is training built around that, rather than around drilling a dog who already can't hear you.

We're at Mosman and my beautiful little human-adoring bordoodle Rosie sometimes snaps at strange dogs when they ignore her cues to go away. I couldn't believe anyone could really have a big impact on a 7-year-old pet but within just one session, I could see a big difference in both of my dogs. They were calmer, more responsive, (Milo had stopped pulling at his lead) and Rosie was completely de-stressed around strange dogs. Luke says there's no such thing really as a dog whisperer, but I think there is and he is it. Simple, really effective processes and making walking fun again!!

I'm in the inner west of Sydney and Luke kindly travelled to us to support in some of my 10 year old Cavalier's behavioural issues mainly around food/treat demands. Before I found Luke I had honestly gotten to the point of almost giving up, I felt so helpless and frustrated by my dog's demanding behaviour. Luke's simple and straightforward program has practically delivered me a new dog within a week! Benji is so much calmer now that I'm following the key rules and I am so grateful to Luke for this.

I cannot recommend Luke enough and wish I had reached out for training with my dog Kiki sooner. Luke spent a lot of time with us in the initial consultation to understand the issues and we've had 2 sessions for 1 on 1 training. The techniques he taught were very easy to implement in everyday life and I saw noticeable improvements within just 48 hours. My dog Kiki is now much calmer and more relaxed in the home and not barking at every noise from outside. She is less reactive on walks when on lead and am very pleased with the progress we have made since starting the training. It has made my life easier but more importantly, I can see my dog is less stressed.

Everything You Need To Know

Here's What You Get Access To

01

Every Level Starts With A Session At Your House

We come to you and work with your actual dog in your actual living room, on the things that are actually happening. Barking at the door, reactivity on the lead, pulling, recall that has never been there, anxiety when you leave. Every level includes at least one, and it runs two to two and a half hours.

02

You Get Taught, Not Just The Dog

You are in all of it. We watch first, because most of what we need turns up in the first twenty minutes. Then you do it, not us, and we correct your timing until it is yours. Handling is a physical skill and it does not transfer by being explained, which is why training that happens without you in the room stops working the week after.

03

The Online Course And The Problem Library

Yours the moment you sign up, from Silver upwards. The Problem Library sits there permanently and you open it the day something starts rather than working through it front to back. Barking, guarding, separation, reactivity, recall, and a guide written for your dog's breed.

04

Real Support, And Ask Luke 24/7

Months of phone and community support with an actual human on the other end. Plus Ask Luke, our digital mind, trained only on how we train dogs. Call it, text it or WhatsApp it at any hour. Unlimited, no waiting, the same answers you would get from Luke.

Start training your adult dog

A man crouching on a light studio floor with two black-and-white puppies. He is wearing a dark navy long-sleeve shirt, olive green pants, and brown boots.

Before We Arrive

Don't tidy up

We want your normal. Do not exercise them into the ground beforehand and do not put the dog away when we knock. The knock is data.

We Watch

FIRST 20 MINUTES

Most of what we need turns up in your hallway, at your front door and on your own street. You will not have to explain much, we will have seen it.

You Learn

Cause, not behaviour

The barking is the symptom. Treating symptoms is why the last four things you tried stopped working. We find what is underneath it and show you the change.

You Do

We Start The Training

We correct your timing and you go again until it is yours. You finish with a plan built around the house you actually live in and the hours you actually have.

First 2 Weeks

Where it gets real

This is when it either becomes a habit in your house or quietly doesn't. Most owners hit their first proper question somewhere in here, and that question is usually the one that unlocks the rest.

First Month

Get your relationship back

Use the support. Tell us what's landing and what isn't, and we'll adjust around your dog rather than the average one. What you end up with isn't an obedient dog. It's walks you look forward to, and a dog who checks in with you because they want to.

Luke is an amazing trainer and is incredibly understanding and knowledgeable. He listened to everything we had to say about our rescue greyhound's issues with separation anxiety and kept things very realistic. Luke also knows greyhounds well which we haven't found with other trainers, would 100% recommend.

I can't thank Luke enough for his help with my little pom chi, Elton (just 1.8kg but with a big personality!). Elton had become very territorial and would bark at every little sound, especially vacuums, loud noises, or even people moving bins outside. With Luke's tips, I've already seen a big improvement in just a few weeks. Elton has gone from a dog that couldn't settle and barked continuously to one who now calms down quickly. This past weekend we even had five kids coming and going through the house, and everyone noticed how much more relaxed he was, far less barking and much quicker to listen to me and settle.

Luke is a phenomenal trainer, both for my dog and for me. He's given me the tools I wish I'd had all along and has given me hope where'd I'd all but given up. He's cool, calm, and collected and clearly deeply loves dogs. If you're having issues with your pup, The Toe Beans will help you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions we get about our puppy program.

Dog Training in Sydney for Dogs 32 Weeks and Older

Do you offer private adult dog training?

Yes. For dogs 32 weeks and older everything is one to one in your own home. There is no group class at this age. Your first session runs two hours and every session after that runs sixty to ninety minutes.

There are four levels, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. They differ by how many sessions you get, how long you have the online course, and how you reach us afterwards. Every level includes Ask Luke, our 24/7 support, with no message limit.

What are the most common issues you help owners with?

We have covered a range of issues including:

  • Leash and walking issues - pulling, reactivity, and aggression during walks
  • Jumping up on people - inappropriate greeting behaviour and attention-seeking
  • Excessive barking - at doors, for attention, when left alone, in cars, and around property
  • Aggression problems - toward people, other animals, or objects
  • Separation anxiety - destructive behaviour and distress when left alone
  • Biting, nipping, and destructive chewing - especially common in puppies
  • Recall issues - not coming when called or running away
  • Potty training problems - house-breaking difficulties
  • Fearfulness and anxiety - phobias, scared behaviour, and hyperactivity
  • Puppy behavioural issues - general new puppy adjustment problems
  • Inappropriate elimination - including eating faeces
  • Furniture and boundary issues - jumping on furniture, accessing restricted areas
  • Multi-dog household problems - dogs not getting along with each other
  • Muzzle training - teaching dogs to accept and wear muzzles properly

Are there any dog breeds you do not work with?

No. Whether you have: a Chihuahua or a Mastiff, an unhinged lunatic of a Spaniel or a goofball of a Rottie. Big, small, angry, lazy, cute, ugly, cuddly or just straight up weird, we love them all.

Many dogs are stereotyped against because some idiot decided to treat them badly and make them into something they are not.

I have worked with Groodles that were dangerous to the point I couldn't enter the room and a 90kg Rottweiler who had to have his cuddly "Lilo and Stitch" toy whenever we went for a walk.

Is barking fixable?

Yes and no. Certain breeds are more inclined to bark (such as the Dachshund). These dogs are inclined to bark more easily and changing these behaviours is incredibly challenging. For other breeds this is possible with consistency and effort.

Is separation anxiety curable?

Of all the issues we cover this is by far the most common in Sydney. Unfortunately, there is no one fix for this and usually it takes a combination of elements to get results. There is no guarantee of fixing separation anxiety

What support do I get for the adult dog training?

Support works in two ways and they are not the same thing.

Ask Luke is our digital mind. Call it, text it or message it on WhatsApp at any hour, with no message limit at any level. It is trained only on our own training material, so what it tells you is what we would tell you. Use it when something is happening right now.

Then there is a human. How you reach us and for how long depends on your level:

  • Bronze, in the community, one month
  • Silver, direct message, three months
  • Gold, phone and text, six months
  • Platinum, priority phone and text, twelve months

Every level also includes lifetime community access and the Five Golden Rules. From Silver up you also get the online course, a guide written for your dog's breed, and the Problem Library, which you open the day something starts rather than working through front to back.

What is included in the adult dog training?

Every level starts with a trainer in your own home, working on the behaviour that is actually happening. Your first session runs two hours and every session after runs sixty to ninety minutes.

  • What is actually driving the behaviour, rather than the behaviour itself
  • The Five Golden Rules, and how they change the way your house runs
  • The specific problem you called us about, worked on where it actually happens
  • Time outside on your own street or at your park if that is where it goes wrong
  • A plan built around the hours you actually have, that you can start the same day

From Silver up you also get the online course, the Problem Library and direct support.

Are you insured?

Yes, we are fully insured.

Do you offer free meet and greets?

Yes, we offer complimentary meet and greets for all of our services. You can schedule them using the booking links and we will be in touch. If you cannot find a time please call on +61431622887

Which areas of Sydney do you work in?

One to one training happens in your home, anywhere in Sydney within roughly a forty five minute drive of the Harbour Bridge. That covers the:

  • Inner City and City Centre
  • Eastern Suburbs
  • Inner West
  • Lower North Shore
  • Upper North Shore
  • Northern Beaches
  • Hills District
  • Western Sydney
  • South Sydney and St George

Group puppy school runs at six fixed venues within about eight kilometres of the Harbour Bridge: Paddington, Edgecliff, Neutral Bay, Zetland, Alexandria and Marrickville. All six are taking bookings. See the puppy school dates page for current dates.
