How we train
Puppy school in Darling Point, and the training that comes after
Puppy school in Paddington is nine minutes away and is where a Darling Point dog should start, well before the lift becomes a problem. Dog training for adolescents and adults is done in your own building.
Darling Point is a small peninsula of mostly large apartment buildings, several of them old, with lifts and long corridors and a lot of neighbours. Everything your dog does happens in shared space. They toilet in public, exercise in public, and meet other dogs in a lift lobby rather than an open park.
That last one matters more than people realise. A lift is the hardest possible place for a dog to meet another dog, because there is no distance available and no way to leave. A dog who is completely social at Yarranabbe Park can be a different animal between the eighth floor and the ground, and most owners find that out on a bad day rather than a planned one.
Yarranabbe Park itself is genuinely good, off lead at all times, right on the water. It is also unfenced, with the harbour on one side and New Beach Road on the other. Rushcutters Bay Park next door runs 3.30pm to 10.30am, so the obvious nearby alternative is on lead through the whole middle of the day. McKell Park has dogs prohibited entirely despite looking like ordinary harbour parkland.
- Puppy preschool plus lift and lobby work from the start, before the carrying becomes the relationship.
- Adolescent training for recall in an unfenced waterfront park.
- Dog behaviourism for adults, worked in your actual building on your actual floor.
Puppy school is at Paddington, nine minutes away. See adolescent training and in-home behaviour training. We also work in Double Bay and Potts Point.
