About Luke Buchanan & The Toe Beans Co
Most dog trainers will tell you what your dog is doing wrong. We start by asking a different question: why is your dog doing it in the first place?
My name is Luke Buchanan. I'm the founder of The Toe Beans Co, a force-free dog training and puppy school based in Sydney. I trained under Dan Abdelnoor and graduated from the Dog Trainer Academy. Since then I've worked with hundreds of Sydney dog owners — from first-time puppy parents in Bondi to families dealing with reactivity in Mosman — to get the relationship with their dog back on track.
The Toe Beans Co was founded in September 2025 on a simple belief: better-educated owners raise better dogs.
The method
Getting a well-behaved dog takes two things: an understanding of dog psychology, and then the training. Most trainers skip straight to the second part. That's why so many people feel like they've tried everything and nothing sticks.
Before we start any training, we focus on winning your dog's mind. When a dog is over-stimulated and making all the decisions, they can't take in new information. They're not being stubborn. They're just not in a state where learning can happen. Shift that first, and everything else becomes easier.
We call this the Dog Calming Code. It's built on relational leadership and positive reinforcement, and it has helped over 100,000 dog owners worldwide. We've never used shock collars or choke chains. We never will.

What The Toe Beans Co offers
We're the only programme in Sydney that combines an in-home 1:1 consultation, a 4-week group puppy school, a 26-module online course, and ongoing phone and community support in one package. Puppy schools run across five Sydney venues: Paddington, Zetland, Marrickville, Alexandria, and Neutral Bay.
For adult dogs, we offer in-home 1:1 behaviour modification sessions from $365. We also offer dog walking, dog sitting, puppy sitting, cat sitting, and adolescent dog training for dogs who've grown past the puppy school window.
And then there's the community. We run a free Skool community open to all dog owners in Sydney and beyond — with breed guides, behaviour guides, weekly Zoom calls, and direct access to the team. Good training doesn't stop when the session does.
Who we work with
We work with dogs of all breeds and temperaments. From nervous rescue greyhounds (we partner with Homeward Bound Hounds to provide free training to all their adopters) to high-energy working dogs and everything in between.
We don't believe in problem dogs. We believe in owners who haven't yet found the right approach.
We work across Sydney, with a focus on the Eastern Suburbs, Inner West, and North Shore. So if you're in Bondi, Coogee, Paddington, Mosman, Neutral Bay, or Marrickville, we come to you.
What we won't do
We have one policy that has never changed: nothing that causes pain or induces fear in a dog. There are trainers in Sydney still using prong collars and punishment-based methods. We'd rather refer you elsewhere than work with techniques we don't stand behind. The dogs we work with respond better without them.
If you want results that actually last, built on a dog that genuinely wants to work with you, that's what we're here for.
Get in touch
The best first step is always a free meet and greet. It's 15 to 30 minutes, there's no obligation, and it gives us a chance to understand your dog and your situation properly. Book online or call us on +61 431 622 887.

A Passion For Paws
Whether your boss has dragged you back in to the office on a Thursday (the audacity!), you have a new puppy, a dog that you can't walk in the park or just want your dog to have a great day out, I am sure we can help.
Fun Fact
I currently have 3 adopted cats (yes, they do run around at night) and am the uncle to a lovely cockapoo. I also have a real soft spot for the lovable hairy goofball that is the Berniese Mountain Dog.
