Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions we get about our puppy program.

The Program

What are your puppy school locations?

Our puppy schools are run across multiple different venues to ensure that you have a convenient place location to attend during the puppy program. We currently offer: Paddington, Marrickville, Neutral Bay, Zetland and Alexandria.

What is included in the video support extension?

Some owners want to get support through our online video tutorial platform. There are a range of courses contained in there covering:

  • Solve Reactivity & Aggression
  • Master The Walk
  • Quit Jumping Up
  • Stop Separation Anxiety
  • Biting, Nipping & Chewing
  • Won't Come Or listen
  • Excessive Barking Be Gone
  • Fearful or Hyperactive Dogs
  • Potty Training Troubles
  • New Puppy Nightmares

What support comes as standard?

You then receive ongoing online, phone and community support including our Complete Puppy Program up until they are 8 months (if you have chosen more support there will also be more 1:1s). If your dog is older than 16 weeks we do offer an adolescent program where we replace puppy school for additional 1:1 sessions whilst still providing the same support as the puppy program

What are the different levels of support you offer for puppy school?

We offer 3 levels of support for our puppy program:

  • Silver: Our most popular program, this comes as standard with all programs and includes a one to one home sessions and support
  • Gold: Comes with everything in Silver plus 2 additional home training sessions to support with any other behavioural issues you are facing
  • Platinum: Only 5 clients accepted at any time. This is are most extensive program and is built for owners looking to take full control of their puppy's development. We provide additional one to one sessions, dedicated phone support and lifetime access to our programs.

What topics are covered in the online course?

  1. Orientation
Welcome and Day 1, why the TBC method works, how the course works, and common puppy myths.
  2. The Big 8
Front-loaded before the Weekly Journey begins — biting, toileting, routine, crate training, crying, sleeping, home set up, and socialisation.
  3. The Weekly Journey
Individual sections for every week from Week 8 through Week 24. Puppy School (weeks 12–15) is folded in here. Week 16 is the critical mouthing transition. Week 17 links out to Recall Training Mastery.
  4. The Problem Library
A standing reference, open anytime — husbandry and cooperative care, command training foundations, recall training mastery, health and first aid, working with your vet, common puppy problems, common dog problems and solutions, the breed-specific behaviour library, and practical life living with your dog (coming soon).
  5. Beyond The Spine
Adolescent workshops, middle adolescence (months 6–9), late adolescence (months 9–12), and the closing capstone.

How many dogs are in puppy school?

We aim for between 6 and 10 dogs in puppy school to balance quality and socialisation.

How do we match puppies for puppy school?

It is really important that your dog meets lots of other types of dog's when they are you. I do see some specific "cavoodle" schools cropping up but I cannot stress how bad an idea this is. Now, it is important that if you have a large breed (eg Bernese Mountain dog) who starts a course at 13 weeks old and a Pomeranian (who starts the course at 12 weeks old) this can make things unfeasible. We will match dogs based on their relative size and age, but we also want to maintain a good mix of breeds in all of our classes

Are there age limits for puppy school?

You can start our puppy program at any age. We recommend starting as early as possible and have online and one to one support to help you through the early weeks at home. Your puppy needs to have had their second vaccination to join group Puppy School — we're able to take puppies from around 11 weeks once this has happened.

What age should I start puppy training?

We recommend that your puppy starts training as early as possible. Our program runs from day 1 at home with your puppy up until they are 8 months. We recommend taking your 1:1 session early into their time at home to get you set up, and we have plenty of support in the weeks that follow. For the group puppy school element, your puppy needs to have had their second vaccination — we're able to take puppies from around 11 weeks once this has happened.

Can Alexandria cater for all breed sizes?

Yes. The Alexandria facility is well set up for all sizes and we regularly work with everything from small companion breeds through to larger working and sporting dogs.

"The group sessions were so valuable in terms of socialising my puppy in a safe environment while also testing out our training with a lot of distractions — this part was extremely helpful. Luke provided personal support and was always there to answer my questions outside of the group sessions. Mac is a better dog because of them."
