Marrickville sits right where the Inner West meets Sydney's south, close enough to the Cooks River and Addison Road Community Centre that a Saturday morning walk usually means passing three other dogs before you reach the corner. Puppy school Inner West Sydney now runs weekly here, at Dogs in Town on Addison Road, a well-established local facility with the standard of setup we look for before we bring a program into any suburb.
It is just as convenient if you are coming from further south. Owners join us regularly from Tempe, Arncliffe, Sydenham, Dulwich Hill, and across toward Hurstville and Bankstown, alongside Marrickville locals.
Dogs in Town Marrickville runs daily daycare with staff who genuinely understand dog behaviour and group dynamics, not just facility management. It is cleaned properly every day, which matters for puppy school specifically, since young immune systems are still developing while puppies share a room. The Addison Road address is central enough to serve the Inner West, South Sydney and the edge of the St George area without asking anyone to fight their way into the city.

Week 1, foundations. A short, practical briefing, then straight into training. Structured introductions, Sit, Down and Stay, supervised socialisation with a trainer talking you through it, and direct help with biting, teething and toileting. Your puppy's photo is taken this week for graduation.
Week 2, adding difficulty. Commands under real distraction, Stay versus Wait as separate skills, the start of loose lead walking, and fixes for jumping and attention barking. We introduce the first two of the Five Golden Rules of Relational Leadership here.
Week 3, building reliability. Command chains, recall under distraction, off lead structured walking, and separation anxiety prevention. Most puppies are noticeably bigger by this point, so we give breed-specific guidance on exercise and mental stimulation.
Week 4, graduation. Figure of 8 walking, calm freeze, reading park play properly, and early adolescent problem prevention. Graduation includes your framed Week 1 photo, a final Q&A, and an invitation into our Skool community.
The same standard applies in Marrickville as at every Toe Beans Co location. No pain. No fear. No force. No aggression. Our method, Relational Leadership, is not about a dog that responds to food or fear, it is about a dog that understands the boundaries of your home because you have earned their trust as a calm, consistent leader. Commands are part of what we teach. Behaviourism, how your dog actually reads their world and responds to it, is the foundation everything else sits on.
"I'll start once they've settled in." The window between 8 and 12 weeks is the most important developmental period your puppy will have. Every week without structure is a week of habits forming, and those habits are what your dog carries into adolescence.
"Commands equal a well-behaved dog." A dog that knows Sit, Down and Stay but has no household boundaries and pulls constantly on the lead has not been well trained. Behaviourism comes first. Commands sit inside that framework.
"Treats are working fine for us." Treat-only training tends to hold up in low-distraction settings and fall apart exactly where you need it most, off lead, around other dogs, when your puppy is excited. We use treats strategically, without building dependence on them.
Is puppy school actually running in Marrickville now? Yes, weekly classes are running at Dogs in Town, Addison Road, with a rolling start so you can join without waiting for a fixed intake.
Do you take owners from further south, like Hurstville or Bankstown? Yes, Marrickville is a genuinely convenient option for owners across South Sydney and the edge of the St George area, not just Marrickville locals.
What age should my puppy be? The 1:1 in-home visit can happen as soon as possible, there is no minimum age for that. The group puppy school component has to be between 11 and 13 weeks, once your puppy has had their second vaccination.
Is this the same standard as your other Sydney locations? Yes, same trainer, same Relational Leadership framework, same Complete Puppy Program structure.
Can I talk it through before booking? Yes, book a free meet and greet with Luke first.
Enrol in the Complete Puppy Program and take your place at our Marrickville school, or book a free meet and greet if you would like to talk it through first.
