How It Works

One session, ninety minutes, in your own home. Here is how it runs.

  • Step 1

    You Book

You pick a date at checkout and tell your breed, their age, and how the first days have gone. I will send you a breed guide by email to help you get familiarised.

  • Step 2

    The Walk Through

Where they sleep, where they toilet, where the crate goes, what they can reach. A lot of the first month is decided by the room rather than by the training.

  • Step 3

    The Big Eight

Biting, toileting, routine, crate training, crying, sleeping, home set up and socialisation. Every puppy gets all eight, because these are what the first six months rest on. All tailored to your home.

  • Step 4

    Your Plan

You will receive notes from the session and an invitation to our community where you can join other people going through the same stage of puppyhood as you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the 10 most commonly asked question

Private Puppy Training

How old does my puppy need to be?

Eight to sixteen weeks. Most people do this in the first fortnight their puppy is home, because that is when the habits are being set, and then go on to puppy school at eleven to thirteen weeks once the second vaccination is done. The two sit together well. This one sorts the house, puppy school sorts the socialisation.

Older than sixteen weeks? Puppy Training covers seventeen to thirty two weeks, and Dog Behaviour Training covers thirty two weeks and over.

What actually happens in the ninety minutes?

It is an orientation, so it is the same eight things for every puppy: biting, toileting, routine, crate training, crying, sleeping, home set up and socialisation. We start with a walk through of the house, because the room decides a lot of the first month. Then we work through the eight, with you doing the handling and me coaching. Whatever is already going wrong in your house gets the most time.

Where do you travel to?

Anywhere within roughly forty five minutes of the Harbour Bridge. That covers the Eastern Suburbs, the Inner West and the North Shore.

Do I get anything after you leave?

A written plan covering all eight and what to expect at ten, twelve and sixteen weeks. Your breed's own behaviour guide. And you keep Before Day One, our pre arrival course, plus lifetime access to the community.

My puppy has not finished their vaccinations. Is that a problem?

No. The session runs in your own home, so there is nothing to wait for. It is one of the reasons to do this early rather than waiting until they can go out.

Is this only useful if something is going wrong?

No, and the puppies who get the most out of it are usually the ones where nothing has gone wrong yet. This is an orientation rather than a repair job. If the biting or the toileting is already a problem we spend longer there, but every puppy gets all eight either way, because the point is to stop the next four months going wrong rather than to fix this week.

What if I want the full programme afterwards?

Say so on the day, or a month later. You enrol the same way anyone else does and we pick up from where the session left off.

What if I need to move the appointment?

One free reschedule, as long as you give me forty eight hours notice.

Should the whole household be there?

If you can manage it, yes. Your puppy is learning what the rules are in that house, and rules only work when everyone is running the same ones. A puppy who gets picked up by one person and ignored by another for the same behaviour just learns it depends who is in the room.

What do I need to have ready?

Their food, a lead, and whatever crate or pen you are using. Do not tire your puppy out beforehand or feed them a big meal right before I arrive. I would rather see them how they normally are, including the parts that are going wrong.
